Now that you have had your CEREC (Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramics) crown placed, you may be wondering what to expect from any post-treatment instructions and CEREC crown aftercare. Luckily, our doctors at Central Avenue Dental are highly experienced in restorative and cosmetic dental care, so you should not experience much difficulty going back to your regular routine with your new crown. However, in the rare case that you do run into issues post-treatment, we have a few tips on how to properly care for your new CEREC crown, and signs to look for that could point to needing a follow-up appointment.

In the days following your procedure, you should not feel any sensitivity or discomfort in your tooth, especially if you had your crown placed due to root canal therapy. If you did not have a root canal, your tooth will still contain the nerve and you could feel temporary sensitivity to cold. If you feel any pain or discomfort when biting down, your crown may have been placed too high above your gum line and will need to be adjusted, which is rarely the case but an easy fix if it does occur!

CEREC crown aftercare should not be hard to follow because you should treat your new crown with the same dental care you would give any natural tooth. Brush your teeth twice daily, remember to floss, and avoid drinking too many dark beverages without the ability to immediately rinse off any potential coating. The ceramic material that makes up your crown can still be stained by coffee, tea, or soda over a period of time. Your new crown will also not protect you against gum disease, so it is important to continue visiting us regularly for visual exams and professional cleanings. Although you may not be protected against deep set-in stains or gum disease with a CEREC crown, you will be protected against decay above your gum line.

If you have any further questions about CEREC crown aftercare, or are worried you may need to have your new crown looked at through a follow-up appointment, call our practice today at 704-900-7301 and a member of our front desk team will be happy to help!
